La
societat Palau, García i Cía. va anar adquirint, entre 1857 i 1865, els
drets d'aigua a les rieres de Canyamars, Rialp i Alfart, tributàries de
la riera d'Argentona, al terme municipal de Dosrius, a uns 10 Km de
Mataró; drets que va vendre a Miquel Costa en 1865, que al seu
torn els va cedir a la Compañía de Aguas de Barcelona en 1867 per
1.500.000. pts. Aquesta va millorar les captacions i va encarregar a l'enginyer Vinguer la construcció d'un aqüeducte que travessava els municipis d'Argentona, Cabrera, Cabrils, Vilasar, Premià, Teià, Alella, Tiana, Badalona i Santa Coloma i arribava a Sant Andreu per l'Estret del Rec. En aquest punt, es va inaugurar en 1882 una central elevadora, on dues màquines de vapor de 25 cavalls de potència accionaven quatre bombes que pujaven 8000 m3 diaris a través d'un sifó de 80 m de desnivell i un quilòmetre de recorregut que salvava la vall del Besòs. Des de la cota 100 del turó d'en Manyoses fins a la riera d'Horta , cota 98 m, la conducció creuava dotze obstacles com són rieres i camins que es van superar amb un sifó de tubs de ciment, sis sifons de mamposteria, quatre aqüeductes i un pas amb mur. La riera de Sant Andreu tenia una amplada de 159 m i l'atravessava un aqüeducte. A la riera d'Horta, amb una amplada de 600 m i una fondària de 38 m, s'hi va instal·lar un sifó de fundició. Aquest tram horitzontal tenia una longitud de 4 Km i un desnivell de 2,28 m. La conducció continuava fins als dipòsits del Parc de les Aigües al Guinardó amb un recorregut total de 38 Km. La canonada segueix el perfil de la muntanya, colgada a poca fondària, amb unes dimensions de 0,8 m d’amplada i 1,40 m d’alçada, el sostre és de volta de canó, les parets, de 10 a 15 cm de gruix. són fetes amb morter de ciment i sauló i lliscades amb ciment fins a un metre d'alçada, excepte en algun tram on s’observa una volta de totxanes. A l’extrem sud, la galeria és més moderna i lleugerament més ampla i alta, i acaba en un conducte de mig metre de diàmetre ple de runa i escombraries. |
The
company Palau, Garcia y Cia. went acquirng between 1857 and 1865, the
water rights to streams of Canyamars, Rialp and Alfart, tributary
